It is critical that parents keep up with current teen lingo in this technological world that our youth are immersed in.  A word or abbreviation can add significant meaning or emotion to a message or text. Dialect helps teens define their connections, feel accepted, and gain independence. All of this is normal for adolescent development, so we should be hands-off but AWARE in allowing this rite of passage.

 

But when a term is loaded with offensive, abusive, illegal, or harmful meaning, then it’s time to take these messages seriously and CONNECT with your child. Below are acronyms and terms that we feel parents MUST know…

Wth=What the hell

 

Af= As f***, extremely 121= Let’s chat in private Pods=for your juul/vape
Clouds= The vapor from your vape THOT=That Hoe over there Aeap= as early or late as possible LMIRL= Let’s meet in real life
1174=Invitation to meet at a wild party 9,CD9, Code 9= Parents nearby 99=Parents are gone MOS/POS=Mom/Parents over shoulder
KPC= Keeping parents clueless WTTP= Want to trade pictures? S2R= Send to Receive (Pictures) Sugarpic= Suggestive or erotic picture
TBH= To be honest, a candid compliment or an insult may follow

 

F2F= Offering to video chat OR meet in person

 

Zerg= To gang up on someone, a gaming term that has morphed into a bullying term Shade= refers to “threw shade” or “throwing shade,” to put someone down
TDTM= Talk dirty to me SWYP=So what’s your problem? 182= I hate you KMS,KYS= Kill myself, kill yourself
A3= Anytime, anywhere, anyplace IWSN= I want sex now GNOC= Get naked on camera NIFOC= Naked in front of computer
PIR=Parent in room CU46= See you for sex 53X= Sex Broken= hung over from alcohol
KOTL= Kiss on the lips PRON= Porn 8= oral sex IPN= I’m posting naked

 

LH6= Let’s have sex TWD= Texting while driving GYPO= Get your pants off 420= Marijuana
